Object Lesson: The Noise of the world

Goal of lesson: Do not let the noise of the world drown out what God is trying to tell you.

Objects needed- Radio that can be turned up loud.

Prep: Tune radio to a frequency that is complete static

Lesson: Today I would like to tell you a story (you can pick any story you want, it shouldn't last more than 30 secs to a minute). Before you start the story turn on the radio and turn the volume up loud so that the kids can not hear you while you are telling your story. Once you are done with the story turn off the radio. Did you enjoy the story? What, you couldn't hear what I was saying? Why not? because of the noise of the radio. Sometimes i think God feels that way when He is trying to tell us something from his word, but we are not listening or can't hear God because we are distracted by the noise of the world. When I say the noise of the world I mean being distracted by what the world has to offer, riches, fame, power. There are examples in the Bible of people who were distracted by the noise of the world Lot, samson, david, solomon, and others were distracted by the noise of the world ( at this point you can dive further into one or more of these examples). The world can be tempting and has a lot to offer, but we need to drown out the noise or distractions of the world and listen to what God has for us. Turn of the "worlds radio" and tune into the What God is trying to tell you through his word. do not love what the world has to offer, desire after the things of God. I John 2:15- "Do not love the world nor the things it offers you"

Object lesson: Recipe for success

Goal of Lesson: What a Christian needs to do to grow spiritually

Objects needed: Bowl, Mixing Spoon, recipe card, Ingredients for cookies: Sugar, flour, eggs, chocolate chips. I put the ingredients in seperate plastic baggies.

Good morning kids, today we are going to make some chocolate chip cookies. How many of you enjoy eating chocolate chip cookies? I have recipe for chocolate chip cookies that tells us what ingredients to add and how much of each ingredient to put in. I've decided that we don't need to follow the recipe. I think we can wing it and make some great cookies. Mix ingredients in bowl tossing in whatever amount you want (If you want you can have volunteers add ingredients). Now we have all our ingredients mixed in. Normally we would put in the oven to bake, but I don't think that is needed. Our wonderful chocolate chips cookies are done!! Who wants to try these homemade cookies (You will get volunteers, please do not let them eat). Did these cookies turn out like you expected? No! Why not? Because we didn't follow the recipe. If we had followed the recipe we could have made some great chocolate chip cookies. God has given us a recipe to follow in our Christian lives so that we can grow more like him. There are 3 simple things you can grown in your Christian life.

1. Read your Bible - Psalm 1:2 - His (the blessed man) delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law doth he meditiate day and night.

2. Apply God's word to your life Ephesians 4:22,23; Romans 12:2 - These are great passages talking about the renewing of the mind. The best way to renew the mind is to apply God's word to our lives. Live out God's word!

3. Pray. Phil. 4:6,7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus"

Follow this recipe and you can have growth in your Christian life.

Object lessons for kids

As I have worked with childrens ministries for the past few years I have found that one of the best ways to communicate biblical truth to kids is through object lessons. For an object lesson to be effective it must be incorporated with scripture as the goal of the object lesson is to teach a biblical truth. I have no problem with simply using scripture to teach kids, but in my experience object lessons have a been a great tool to drive home the point. I will be posting object lessons that I have found useful in kids ministry. If anyone has an object lesson that they have used please let me know and I will post it to the site. Thanks for your help.
