Object lesson: Recipe for success

Goal of Lesson: What a Christian needs to do to grow spiritually

Objects needed: Bowl, Mixing Spoon, recipe card, Ingredients for cookies: Sugar, flour, eggs, chocolate chips. I put the ingredients in seperate plastic baggies.

Good morning kids, today we are going to make some chocolate chip cookies. How many of you enjoy eating chocolate chip cookies? I have recipe for chocolate chip cookies that tells us what ingredients to add and how much of each ingredient to put in. I've decided that we don't need to follow the recipe. I think we can wing it and make some great cookies. Mix ingredients in bowl tossing in whatever amount you want (If you want you can have volunteers add ingredients). Now we have all our ingredients mixed in. Normally we would put in the oven to bake, but I don't think that is needed. Our wonderful chocolate chips cookies are done!! Who wants to try these homemade cookies (You will get volunteers, please do not let them eat). Did these cookies turn out like you expected? No! Why not? Because we didn't follow the recipe. If we had followed the recipe we could have made some great chocolate chip cookies. God has given us a recipe to follow in our Christian lives so that we can grow more like him. There are 3 simple things you can grown in your Christian life.

1. Read your Bible - Psalm 1:2 - His (the blessed man) delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law doth he meditiate day and night.

2. Apply God's word to your life Ephesians 4:22,23; Romans 12:2 - These are great passages talking about the renewing of the mind. The best way to renew the mind is to apply God's word to our lives. Live out God's word!

3. Pray. Phil. 4:6,7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus"

Follow this recipe and you can have growth in your Christian life.
